	The best thing about this alley is the sign out front. It's all downhill from there. Bland interior. Despite a button on the console labeled "drinks", beverages are restricted to the mezzanine. Why? I don't know. It certainly wasn't in the interest of keeping the floors clean as they were so dusty I had to be very careful not to be dragged down the lane with the ball. The autoscoring included cheater tutorial screens that I personally find pushy and annoying. Hey, I'll do it my way, thanks. The unused screens broadcasted ESPN of all things. Are they unaware that gothbowlers condone no sports you cannot smoke and drink while playing? To add insult to injury, like a late night gas station, they require the pre pay of all games, destroying all flow and continuity, should you choose to bowl more than your prepaid amount. Goth points were earned for the deviant behavior that must have occurred in obtaining so many balls with other alleys names on them. There is pleasant formica on the mezanine, a nice vending machine, and the alley's own self published newsletter. If only the heart that went into "Bowling Echo's" (sic) could have gone toward the upkeep of the alley, Monterey Lanes could have been the gothest alley on this site. This single page double sided photocopied journal of the Monterey Bowling Association, vows that they are "dedicated to maintaining bowling's integrity and popularity", and if there is a nobler cause, I do not know it.
